Nakia D. Hansen

a sassy, savvy, sagacious polymath living in Brooklyn

A social media strategist trained in the law and committed to social justice, Nakia's combined skills and passions have led her to rich and varied experiences including working with Planned Parenthood Federation of America, the North Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence, and the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas - Criminal Division. Through her consultancy, Betty Strategy, she works with individuals and organizations on how to best utilize new media in their advocacy and promotional efforts. She has done several presentations and trainings on the subject including “Social Media 101 for Domestic Violence Advocates” and “Running on All Cylinders: Using Integrated Communications to Achieve Advocacy Goals.” 

Nakia serves on the Board of Directors of the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to improving societal and community responses to domestic violence and, ultimately, preventing its occurrence.  She is also an active member of the Brooklyn Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, through which she exercises her commitment to public service and the empowerment of the Brooklyn community.

 

A self-described social media junkie, Nakia is active on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Swarm, Tumblr, Instagram, and occasionally finds time to post to her blog. With an appetite for travel and new experiences, she has traveled across the U.S. and abroad to places such as Japan, Thailand, Germany, Denmark, Iceland, the Caribbean, Canada, and Mexico. Her other interests include cooking, rowing, interior design, dance, and biking to brunch.
 
Nakia obtained her Juris Doctor from Temple University’s Beasley School of Law in 2009 earned a Bachelor’s in African & African-American Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2003. With an appreciation for ongoing scholastic achievement and a desire to expand her expertise on the intersection of law and technology, Nakia earned a Master of Laws in Intellectual Property in 2014 from the Benjamin N. Cardozo Law School. She is a member in good standing of the New York State Bar.
